Let’s save democracy before it’s too late
This Is the Moment
I often wonder what I would have done if I lived in 1930s Germany. I’m 87 now. Would I have been too old to act?
As fascism creeps up on us in 2025, will I hide behind my age? No. I may not be able to man the barricades, but I can write about the warning signs as a call to action.
We all have a role. We can write. We can podcast. We can resist. From behind microphones or from behind barricades.
We can raise our voices in the spirit of the Italian anti-fascist anthem, Bella Ciao—a song born of Mussolini’s oppression. Germany tried to perfect fascism. I fear Project 2025 aims to refine it for an American audience.
There are many kinds of democracy. Many ways to govern with justice and liberty.
But only one way to respond to fascism: with resistance.
Draw your line in the sand. Do what you can. Say what must be said.
This is still a country worth fighting for.
May it be so.
